Ok, so killing an animal is not abusing an animal. It is killing an animal (assuming you don't abuse it to death). Honestly, depending upon how quickly she expected someone to respond to her death, it may have been animal abuse to leave the pet alive with nobody to feed it or let it out. Was it right? No. It would have been better to find the dog a home before shooting herself, but then I doubt rational thought was much involved.
