US gives $250 million in aid to Egypt

It's called bribery. Basically the same tactic used to buy off the "coalition of the bribed" with Iraq.

The US guv couldn't care less about people at home. This is about regional power and hegemony protection.

And not to sound like a conspiracy nut, but sometimes I really believe the US does this sort of thing to maintain an enemy presence and threat to justify increased and maintained military-industrial spending and growth. Such as was done with both Iraq and Iran during their war, or the funding of the Islamic fundies in Afghanistan during the 80's/90's. Most of the despots around the world the US fought were at one time hugely supported by the same.

You don't try to "bribe" other countries and tell our people they may have to face furloughs and/or cuts. Ridiculous no matter how you slice it.

The benefit you get from bribing Egypt with $250 million far outweighs the benefit you get for distributing the $250 million among 300 million Americans. You take $250 million away from Americans, they'll still continue to work for America. You give $250 million to Egypt, you get to crush opposition to their "freely elected leader," thereby promoting democracy.

Because $250 million is smaller change when it comes to establishing a military presence. When that money goes back to Americans however, it doesn't make that much of a difference.

Let me give you an example with a smaller amount. Let's say I give $25 to some crazy jackass named Precocity. It can help him maintain the site, and it also turns my name green. If I gave that same $25 to my parents, they would just put it into their $1.3 million savings account which wouldn't make a difference.
