U.S. Spent Record $80.4 Bil on Food Stamps in 2012

Once again we see the fauxrage pimping in full effect, as somebody goes off about how... food stamps...why yes, it's food stamps that are siphoning away the worst amount of our taxpayer dollars!

And doesn't that make you angry!?

Of course, you could instantly name _________________________ and even ________________________ whose parasitic grip on the U.S. treasury has wiped out/taken more than 10, 100 times of what food stamps cost but of course that is always of little interest to people pimping stories like this.

$186 million? OMG. Eliminating that should put a dent in the deficit.

Nothing says "We're serious about wasteful taxpayer expenditures" in this country like targeting the poor and the hungry. When it's time to start rounding up fiscal offenders, it's best to start at the... bottom.

Its not the actually dollar amount that is a problem to me, considering its a drop in the bucket for spending from the federal government, its more surprising that over the years we are amassing more and more food stamps, more aid, and yet we actually still aren't seeing results in terms of poverty. Recession aside, we have been trying this for years since the Great Society efforts and it isn't working, so whats the deal? Why is our society becoming more acceptable of government services and why are we continuing to push out more? Id argue thats the issue at hand here, and its just a small one because food stamps are easy to get information for.

Is it really that much of a mystery that more people on food stamps = the economy is faltering?

This may come as a shock to many of the outrage pimps who want to take a chainsaw to things like food stamps but guess what--food stamps =/= equal simply no-white welfare leeches who simply want to live off the nanny state. I wonder if these people haven't watched the news in, I dunno, years.

It's a variation of the "We must get rid of welfare because welfare keeps people from working!" Now it's: food stamps are... of course keeping people on food stamps.

As if the vast majority of people are sitting around and aspire to nothing more than eeking out a gov't-funded meager existence instead of aspiring to something better.

That's how the advocates of this type of thing provide moral cover for themselves: by attempting to convince themselves that turning our backs on people down on their luck is of course the "moral" thing to do, as we're really saving them, because that help is actually hurting them, you see.

So to answer your question: you want less people on food stamps or welfare? Fix the economy.
