The only reason those potential risks currently weigh more in some parent's mind, than, oh, I dunno, epidemic outbreaks that used to be a common occurence is precisely because of vaccination. Oh little Timmy doesn't need to take the risk of taking a polio shot, who gets polio or measles or all those weird viruses and diseases anymore? It's not the looming ever present threat of potential death it was in the past. Gee I wonder why. Maybe Timmy has less risks of being infected because the overwhelming majority of his classmates and friends are vaccinated?

it also doesn't matter that all this is vaccinating against is something you can only get THROUGH VERY SPECIFIC ACTIONS, and it's not like say, whooping cough

So vaccination exists in a vaccuum, and the only country in the entire planet that vaccinates it's children is the US? I had no idea American pharmaceutical companies ruled the entire world with an iron needle, ready to squash any mention that vaccines can be detrimental, because...money? Yes, obviously vaccination is the biggest cashcow ever for pharmaceutical companies. Yet again, the US is the very center of the universe, and obviously there is a conspiracy. Also, what VERY SPECIFIC ACTIONS, Galt? VERY SPECIFIC ACTIONS like happening to be in the same room? What diseases and viruses are prevented by vaccination?
I don't mind that much if a small minority of people in the US are convinced that vaccination can lead to autism or cancer or whatever, they're free to believe that as far as I care, and even inflict that belief on their children. What really pisses me off is when those same people start pushing that belief (thinking they are doing a good and moral thing of course) on "third world" countries where epidemics are still very much a reality. In many places much less than even a few decades ago because of...vaccination. But no, obviously the reccuring and irradicable diseases humanity has dealt with for centuries dissapeared out of pure happenstance.
