No, I haven't forgotten, because the rights and wrongs of the benefits of legal marriage itself are immaterial to this discussion.
The fact is straight people are able to marry their life partners, but gay people often aren't. More and more people are beginning to realise that is unfair.

There's nothing in the constitution that mentions marriage. The fact that this whole thing is controversial is because the gubmint got involved in it- shit like this should be totally out of their jurisdiction.
