What I said was the protestant work ethic that supposedly built this country is a lot of hooey. I say this because the guys with the work ethic weren't the guys actually having to do the work. Their ethic was for the edification of others apparently.
Capitalism is a social order by which one class can live off of the work of another class. The only reason a meme exists that says hard work will be rewarded is to trick the exploited class into working a little harder. This idea is a development of an earlier one from religion in the feudal period ie work hard in this life and get your reward "in heaven, after you die".
