What she meant was that people who claim benefits were leeching off their neighbours, as it was they who provided the cash for state hand outs. That society wasn't a thing, but made up of people's money, which they should keep for themselves and spend how they liked.
She didn't mention infrastructure and defence, though. I suppose she thought roads, transport and the armed forces could be run as a business, just like everything else.
She believed poverty and sickness were moral faults that could be overcome with hard work and determination.
If you broke your leg and couldn't work, which is what happened to my grandfather back in the 1920s , then that was your problem.
Luckily, her Cabinet were not mad enough to listen to her. At least, not all of the time.

I finally got around to watching The Iron Lady the other day-apart from Meryl Streeps performance it was the biggest pile of shite Ive ever had to endure. Mind knowing that she was dead when I was watching made it slightly more enjoyable.
