There have been fears about "outsourcing" since the 1980s. It hasn't happened yet (the wholesale outsourcing of American jobs). Our unemployment is still at manageable levels, suggesting that people's jobs haven't been outsourced without them having a replacement job somewhere else.
Of course, if it does, I'm not going to get upset and cry into my cereal. I'll just move wherever the jobs are and run the company there. No skin off my teeth.

US inventiveness and innovation is a cultural myth.

Better wake up. Americans are good at stealing other people's ideas and commercializing them. That is isn't being inventive or innovative.
If you are good at commercializing the ideas of others it means you better have a manufacturing set up to capitalize on that with cheaply manufactured goods and our manufacturing sector is less than 20% of the economy and falling fast.
The rest of the world isn't going to listen to any of our IP bull shit that says we own everything AND make all of our shit for us, at least not for very long.
