The fact that they are so highly conservative is what I think will lead to their defeat, as civilization has seen all conservative viewpoints eventually give way to progression.
That's not to say that conservative viewpoints are not valid. They have a very solid and valid place, and that is ensuring what we are progressing to is sufficiently tested and tempered in a fire to come out as a shiney sword instead of a hunk of twisted crap.
But, eventually, the test is done and the conservative viewpoint gives way, in general. It's inevitable and it will be why they will actually lose in the long run. It may take a long, long time, but it will happen.
