Doubt it. The Russian's gave f**k all when the ISI were utilizing Afghanistan as a buttress against Indian involvement. Keep in mind this was also following Russia's own intervention in the region in the 80's.

Mullah Omar of the Taliban is the kind of guy that takes a handful of students, half of them army with rusty old rifles, and goes up against a warlord with tanks and shit to rescue two girls that got taken from their families to be used as sex slaves.
Why can't we find a way to work with someone that would do that?
