Best General of WW2

Been reading Von Manstein's Lost Victories and he has my vote as the best general of WW2, it was his idea to attack France form the Ardennes rather than follow the old Schlifflein plan which led to Germany's greatest victory. Its a pity that Hitler was such a big egoist and removed him from his post after they quarreled too many times, if the Nazi dictator had given Von Manstein command of the army I think he might have been able to withstand the Soviet onslaught much longer.

tactically - yeah probably Manstein (Yamashita deserves an honorable mention)

strategically - Zhukov

organizationally - Ike

rommel. cliche, yes.

but he was undermanned, undergunned, underequipped, and was constantly low or out of supplies, and he managed to advance on the british still.

your generals are good, eynon, but they had the backing of the entire war machine of their countries. rommel was basically tossed to the axis equivalent of siberia and told to fix what the incompetent italians had mucked up royally.

he had some skillz, yo. the eastern front was no joke. and yeah zhukov had the threat of being purged hung over his head.

i think i just like commander who do more with less (heinrici certainly did that) because it shows more of what a general is supposed to do. their job is tactics and strategy, not necessarily just hammering through a front. the less you have and the more you do shows a superior sense of tactics in my mind.

wikipedia suggests he had a numerical advantage with surprise on his side. what am i missing about his victory? (i'm pretty ignorant of japan's exploits west of china)
