Oh and as for real world examples of how self managed businesses perform look at Gore-Tex or Mondragon Corporation.
Both regularly perform in the black and incorporate aspects of worker self management into the effort.
So that's concrete proof of the viability of these ideas in the wild, so to speak.

Also, GoreTex and Mondragon are both highly proficient industrial manufacturers so I wasn't really ignoring that at all when I used them as real life examples of successful worker managed firms.
Mondragon is actually a Spanish federation of worker co-ops. So it's pretty big. This is from the tradition of the Spanish Revolution and is another pretty good example of libertarian socialism in action. You should read Homage to Catalonia
