We don't need to fight the cold war anymore. It's over.

We've done bad things, they did do more. And bad things will still happen.

Removing authorization for military force, in place for over a decade now, is the only first step. Until that happens it never ends. Obama won't be able to make that happen, and who knows how the next President will feel about it.

Also, agreed, the Soviets did more bad things. But when you have to compare yourself to the Soviet Union to get a sense of righteousness, something went horribly wrong. Perhaps the arrogance that also leads to half-baked claims of anti-Americanism plays a role in that.

I have come to an understanding that if the gov and corp. media say something in unison then just about everyone will go on believing that it is true even when they have a dead reckoning that it isnt. The normalcy bias is wickedly strong in Americans.

The president could land on a carrier with his cod piece to declare that the WoT is over and we are pulling out for parades at home. The water cooler would be buzzing with partisan flavors and misinformed views. It wouldnt matter if villages were droned and children bleeding in the streets of a far away land from a US munition. People would roll their eyes and this forum would move the threads to the Alt/conspiracy as long as the common American spoke as if the war was over.
