Not much to expand on really.
The Hurricane was an interceptor. The Spitfire was a true dogfighter. The RAF strategy in the BoB was for the Spitfire to take on the escorts while the Hurricane went after the bombers.
Without them to keep the bf 109 escorts busy a lot more bombers would have gotten through. The Hurricane was underpowered in comparison to the bf109 and though it technically had better flight characteristics it couldn't be relied upon to beat the messerschmitt in a turn. The design caused a pre-stall shake and a lot of pilots wouldn't push the turn enough to survive the encounter. The Spitfire had comparable engine power and thus was a better match for the bf 109. The RAF strategy reflected this.
